Meet our committee members! (Part 1)

As an Incorporated Association we have an executive committee to keep the cogs turning nicely.  And we’d really love for our group to get to know those of us on the committee a little bit better!

All of our roles are elected roles, nominated and voted on at our AGMs (held in November) by our paid members. Most roles have a term of 2 years, and our community Ambassador has a recommended term of 4 years.  You can visit our new Committee and Membership pages for more on that.

But without further ado, here’s some fun background details about some of our passions for the hobby…

Role: Vice President (February 2023 – present)

Joined PerthLUG: June 24, 2014

Favourite Theme(s): there is too many to list, modulars, winter sets, upscaled minifigs, lord of the rings, any sets relating to video game consoles or games such as the Nintendo console/tv and the legend of Zelda. I always tell myself to stick to a couple of themes but it’s just too hard with the amazing sets being released.

What brought you out of your dark ages?  Well it was the Lego beetle set 10187, coming from a vw family (we all drove vw cars, I saw this set while travelling to the USA on a family holiday – first time stepping into a Lego store, I was tempted but thought how would I get this set home it would take up so much space and I thought the price was high at the time. I left it, fast forward 4 years and here I was paying triple the price as it was retired, but boy it was well worth it and it sits proudly next to my two Lego kombi vans and the other Lego beetle set. Being an adult Lego fan has been a wonderful experience, I found this hobby to be very therapeutic and have made some fantastic friends through our Lego group . So glad to be part of such a great community.

Role: General Member (February 2023 – present)

What do you love about LEGO and the LEGO community? The people. PerthLUG is full of welcoming, supportive and generous folk. It’s been a great way to meet friends who share my love of these special little plastic bricks. Whether it’s getting excited about a new release, sharing building tips or lending a hand, the enthusiasm is contagious.

Engagement with the hobby: I’ve been collecting LEGO Star Wars minifigures for years and love the challenge of tracking down new additions. My interests have since expanded beyond Star Wars to themes like Ideas and Creator, but there is never enough shelf space! I also enjoy building the occasional MOC and finding creative ways to combine my love of LEGO with art through exhibitions like ArtyBricks.

Role: Community Ambassador (May 2025 – present)

Joined PerthLUG: January 29, 2014

Engagement with the hobby: I played with LEGO as a child, then took a tub with me to university, then really embraced the hobby when the first modulars came out (10185 Green Grocer and 10182 Café Croner). With a love for nature, art, books and STEM, I really enjoy the Botanicals and Creator 3-in-1 animals sets, as well as anything to do with sci-fi, fantasy, space, robots, gothic, steampunk, and books. I like building MOCs and enjoy the challenge of just working with the bricks I have.

What do you love about LEGO and the LEGO community? I love LEGO for its versatility and sustainability – my childhood bricks still click with today’s bricks, and I can create infinite MOCs with what I have. It’s also an incredible activity for supporting good mental health.  I love how welcoming and accepting and incredibly diverse our PerthLUG community is.  And I constantly see how brick connection leads to human connection and that makes my heart happy.

Stay tuned for Part 2 coming soon to get to know the other committee members a bit better too!
