In Part 1, we introduced you to a few of the committee members that help keep the cogs turning nicely for our group, and we let you about out two new pages for Committee and Membership information.
We’d now love to share a bit more about the rest of the committee, and the things they love about our hobby and community…
MATTHEW (SPUD) WILLIAMS
Role: President (November 2025 – present)

Favourite Theme(s): While the Technic theme will always be my favourite, over the last few years I have branched out to different themes that showcase building techniques that intrigue me, cute sets that capture the original theme and design, and themes that are nostalgic, such as Star Trek.
What do you love about LEGO and the LEGO community? The fact that even though we all come from various backgrounds, we have one topic that we can sit down and enjoy together. Discussing Lego released Sets or individuals MOCs gives me great pride that this is the ‘Hobby’ for me.
How Lego has evolved from the humble Brick to the expanding themes it has, and how it embraces the ideas of the community is truly outstanding, it shows that both the Lego Community and Lego rely on each other to adapt and grow.
What brought you out of your dark ages? Set 8110 Unimog U400. I saw this set in a local toy store and immediately fell in love with it. The vast functions and playability I enjoy immensely. This led me onto the quest of attempting to secure every Technic set produced. I soon discovered that there were just too many to collect, and that my ideas of Lego had changed to where I wanted to start designing and building my own sets and displays.
SUE-ANNE C
Role: Secretary (February 2023 – present)

Favourite Theme(s): My go to collection is Modulars, Architecture, Technic Super Cars and Motorcycles. I will pick up any Ideas or Bricklink sets that interest me and recently I have added the gaming consols and upscaled minifigures to my collection. My next progression is to complete a MOC to exhibit.
What brought you out of your dark ages? : I played with my brothers Classic Space LEGO and had the Scala jewellery sets when I was younger. As an adult, I saw the Sydney Opera House set and thought it looked really cool so got that. That build then got me interested in the Architecture range and Modular range. This started the hunt for all the previous releases to catch up ! And well it just grew from there.
What do you love about LEGO and the LEGO community?: The community is so welcoming and inclusive. Moving here from Sydney I didn’t know many people, and joining Perth LUG was the best thing I did. I have met many awesome people and made some great friends as well. Everyone shares their ideas and love of the brick. I always wanted to start doing MOCs and exhibiting but had no idea where or how to begin. LEGO itself is a great tool for mindfulness, mental health and for bringing people together 😊
KRISTA GECKO
Role: General Member (November 2025 – present)

Why Lego and why now? My family didn’t have a lot growing up, and I had to grow up very fast so never really got a chance to explore Lego as a child. Now I am in my 30’s, and run a very successful business, I have the time and capacity to let my inner child be nurtured and unleash their creativity.
Getting into Lego was not something I planned, but it is something that I have since recognised I needed because it has brought my life so much joy, enrichment and education.
I currently run the after school Lego club at the local community resource centre, and am thoroughly enjoying passing on my learned knowledge to the 25+ children we have each term.
I have always been fascinated with dragons, and have over 50 Lego dragons hanging from the ceiling of my home office/ Lego space. I have another… 20 that need hanging however, like most collectors, space is an issue! Aside from those, I also collect a lot of minifigs, usually the fantasy and funky Ninjago ones.
I also love ships and have the three original Pirates of the Caribbean ships, along with the Going Merry from One Piece on display.
Oh and DINOSAURS! I love dinosaurs! I have boxes of the Lego dinos from years gone by that I have very big plans for… but… the space issue!
However, my ultimate favourite theme is Halloween. I will go out of my way for anything spooky or eerie!
Can you ever have too many dragons? No!
HELEN STAPLEDON
Role: Treasurer (November 2025 – present)

What’s in your collection and what are your favourite sets?: I like the cute sets and little animals and the costumed minifigs, especially the animal costumes. A lot of the recent Disney sets have been really cute with characters like Heihei. Whenever all the new sets come out I find the ones with cute animals.
I also like the Modulars and Lunar New Year sets and BrickHeadz. I’ve gotten instructions off Rebrickable for things like the Grinch and Little Red Riding Hood BrickHeadz, and a MOC of Toothless (I would love for LEGO to do a How to Train Your Dragon Range with moulded dragons!!).
I’m very lucky to have a couple of those rare goats from 7189 Mill Village Raid in my collection – I picked it up in a bulk lot minus the figures and horse!
Do you have a white whale set? : My biggest regret is not getting set 79003 The Hobbit: An Unexpected Gathering when I had the opportunity to buy it on clearance at Kmart for $69. I thought ‘I’ll wait till it comes down more’… but it didn’t, and I missed out. I love the hobbit house, and I ended up purchasing all the parts for the building, but don’t have the figures. It’s definitely the one that got away.
Building with LEGO over the years: We had some basic LEGO as kids, and then I got back into LEGO when my kids were younger. I can’t remember how I came along to my first build night, but it was when it was still in the old hall. I didn’t come regularly till the kids were a bit older, though I‘d sometimes bring them along in school holidays. I find it enjoyable to sit and build, and it’s definitely nice with a group of like-minded people – even if there’s probably more talking than building some nights.
