Where is this year going?! That’s another Buildapalooza down already. Maybe you missed it or maybe your memory is as fuzzy as mine. In any case, you’re going to need a recap of the night’s events. In this issue, we cover all the prizes, parts draft and a bunch of awesome builds. Join me as we break it all down!
Some real quick info for those who might be new. Buildapalooza is PerthLUG’s regular social event where on the second Monday of every month we bring along a Lego set and just build and socialise. We’re a friendly bunch from all walks of life. It’s just $5 for non-members to help keep the lights on. Where & when at the bottom of the page.

Let’s start with the giveaways. Our dear members had the chance to win one of SIX incredible Lego prizes. We had everything from new releases and exclusive sets to even official merch. Amazing! A special thanks to Judy for donating the two adorable Gifts with Purchase.

First dibs on the prize lot this month went to Amy L, who chose the most impressive Sherlock Holmes Book Nook. The stellar Up-Scaled Baby Astronaut (cute) went to Kat C, while Jack D took home Dolores the Baby Dinosaur (cuuuute). Three very fortunate members couldn’t make it to the night, but due to their membership perks, they are winners all the same. Prizes will be with you soon!

Cleaning up in the extra special bonus raffle this month was Dylan – joined here by Gabriel, who may or may not have had his eye on this massive Mario World set (71438). Can’t blame the little fella either; what an epic fun set that has to be. Mario and Yoshi’s little legs move and everything! I believe our lucky winner here received the ticket as a birthday present. I’d say that $2 investment paid off mightily well; maybe moreso for Dylan though. Congratulations to all our winners. We’ll be back again next month with yet more giveaways!

The prizes are always fun, of course, but the serious builders amongst us don’t let a Parts Draft pass them by. This tradition serves up a bunch of Lego parts in decently useful quantities by doubling up the sets as a group. If you’re big into MOCs then jump on this. This month’s sorting sacrifice was the sleek Aston Martin Aramco F1 AMR24 Race Car 77245. Want to have a go? Sure thing! Just follow our PerthLUG Facebook page and you’ll get the heads up on which set to bring along next month.

Now to spy on some of what y’all were building Monday night. Judy’s La Catrina Brickheadz is so bright and colourful. Sooooo much character packed into a diminutive little Brickheadz set. Kat’s Angel will look glorious beside Stitch on display. What an absolute charmer this pink alien thing is. That was supposed to be a compliment! Helen’s Airplane vs. Hospital Bed set looked like a bunch of fun but between these two fierce competitors, my money is on the guy not currently recovering from his last crash. Meanwhile, Dale contributes with his Dreamzzz minifig. That’s four whole parts assembled in one night – surely a record! Jokes aside, thanks Dale and team for all your efforts putting these wonderful events together.

Next up, we have one nearly complete Jurassic World set courtesy of Tim. A fun little build with detachable research post and obligatory dinos. A surprisingly solid and robust build with massive go-fast wheels too. Speaking of fun builds, Riley introduced me to his Wall-E alternative build of the 60420 Excavator. Rebrickable is a great resource for this sort of thing and surely a much cheaper option than hunting down one of the retired official sets. Thank you all for sharing these pics with us. As usual, there is so much going on at our build nights and this is just a small sample. You’ll have to come along to the next one to experience it for yourself. I keep saying it, but seeing some of these builds in person is a privilege and can really change your opinion on a set or maybe help you if you’ve been on the fence.

For our final highlight, let’s spare a thought for Liam here, whose build had a short, sudden trip from height. But let’s not spare too many thoughts because the guy is crazy talented and already had his epic MOC work-in-progress back together and moving forward by night’s end. Can’t wait to see this on display in the future mate.

And before we go, since the Break Down is already a de facto newsletter at this point, let’s take a quick look-see at our recent Minifigapalooza buy/sell day a couple of weeks back. What an absolutely tremendous turnout. All buyers and sellers in the same big hall made for an exciting event full of activity. I saw some wonderful bargains and I even made it to the trade table to exchange a couple minifigures. Thanks to Silvia and co. for making this such a successful event. Here’s to the next one!
And that’s about it for another month and another issue of the Build Night Break Down. We’ll be back again in August on the 11th from 7 to 11 PM at our usual spot — John McGrath Pavilion, off Hensman Street, South Perth. Why not join us? All are welcome.
