Did you miss Monday’s Buildapalooza? Maybe your memory is just a little fuzzy? All good. Let’s catch you up on the events of the evening with all the prizes, parts draft and some featured builds thrown in too. Join me as we break it all down.
Some real quick info for those who might be new. Buildapalooza is PerthLUG’s regular social event where on the second Monday of every month we bring along a Lego set and just build and socialise. We’re a friendly bunch from all walks of life. It’s just $5 for non-members to help keep the lights on. Where & when at the bottom of the page.

Let’s jump into the prizes straight away with a Star Wars-heavy Members’ draw this month. I approve – May the Fourth be with you all. For those members without a Star Wars-shaped heart like mine we also had a lovely Botanicals set to give away too. A big congratulations goes to Jasper who took home the gorgeous Grogu in his adorable little floating pram. So cute.

Our two other members listed below couldn’t make the evening but yet they still won prizes – those memberships paying off once again!
Members’ Draw
Grogu with Hover Pram 75403: Jasper G
Brick-Built Star Wars Logo 75407: Yenta H
Petite Sunny Bouquet 10347: Rachel R

If the Members’ Draw didn’t offer up enough prizes then take a look at our extra special bonus raffle. A $5 ticket bought you the chance to win BOTH the new Lord of the Rings Shire 10354 AND the limited Gift-With-Purchase Smeagol & Deagol 40761! It looks like our happy winner, Lisa S, was struggling a bit to carry all that Lego but I’m sure some very generous folks offered to lighten the load and take one or both sets off her hands. I know I would! Joking aside, congrats Lisa on an epic win.

The parts draft team were busy again sorting and divvying up the spoils. This month’s sacrificial parts set was the very brightly coloured Moana 2 Heihei 43272. Not one that was on my radar but some super fun parts in there. Again, wise choice team. Hey, if you want to get involved with the parts draft you can! Just follow us along at our PerthLUG Facebook page and you’ll get the heads up on which set to bring along. It’s a great resource for builders to take home decently useful quantities of Lego parts. Thanks to Ben as usual for leading the draft.

Now to my absolute favourite part of the night – where I roam about and have a sticky-beak at some of the builds of the evening. First off let me highlight Mark’s Up-Scaled Racing Driver Minifigure. I know a bunch of folks this week will be chasing the Up-Scaled Baby Astronaut GWP but don’t be sleeping on this one. I’m no motorhead like this guy (*wink wink*) but the combo of those colours, printed pieces and an appeal to nostalgia has me eyeing this set for my own collection too.

I would be remiss to not include a Star Wars set for May, and thanks to John, we have the chance to take a looksee at the new ARC-170. I know some die-hards were a little disappointed to hear this set would be downscaled but having seen it now in person, I have to say it looks reeeally smooth. And for something completely different, Paul shows us the praying mantis from the Ideas Insect Collection. The parts usage on this one build is really something special. I won’t spoil all the surprise, but I have to make mention of the revolver pieces in sand green for feet – truly inspired.

There were so many builds to see on Monday and I’ve featured but a few. Thanks to everyone who so graciously gave me their time to show off their builds to y’all here. Finally, let me just highlight what Liam was up to because this one is something special and deserves an explanation. Liam was inspired by a remote controlled omnidirectional vehicle from YouTube’s Akiyuki Brick Channel. This thing is so much fun! Move the thumbstick on the controller and this robot speeds along any which way. This is ‘just’ a proof of concept for now but watch this space as we may see the project develop into something even more elaborate in the coming months. Awesome stuff mate.
And that’s it. There is no more. Another Buildapalooza done and dusted for another month. We had an absolute blast with plenty to see and a wonderful buzz about. If you’d like to come to one of our build nights, Buildapalooza is back again next month on the second Monday. That’s the 9th of June at our normal time and place; 7-11pm at John McGrath Pavilion off Hensman St, South Perth. Everyone is welcome!
