Our Buildapalooza was back again last Monday and what another great night it was. Good company, cool prizes and a heap of Lego building. Not a bad way to start the week off at all. If you missed it don’t fret, I’ve got you covered with this latest issue of the Build Night Break Down.
Some real quick info for those who might be new around these parts and wishing to come along to one of our build nights. Buildapalooza is PerthLUG’s regular social event where on the second Monday of the month we bring along a Lego set and just build and socialise. We’re a friendly bunch from all walks of life. It’s just $5 for non-members to help keep the lights on. More details at the bottom of the page.

Let’s dive straight in with the prizes. The Members’ Draw was suitably themed with various Easter offerings. The Cute Bunny 3in1 is delightful, but personally, I think its unofficial fourth alternate build – the Alien facehugger – is to die for. A couple of our winning members couldn’t make it to the night, which certainly made it awkward when somehow my number was drawn! I thought I might dodge the photo op, but of course, I wasn’t going to be let off the hook that easily. Fiiiine, fair is fair, here’s me mug then.

Members’ Draw
French Café: Lukas M
Easter Bunny and Chick Egg Hunt 40808: Rob B
Cute Bunny 31162: Tyron B

But that’s not all! Our extra special bonus raffle featured the new Trevi Fountain set. What an exquisite set, topping out at a whopping 1880 pieces too. Congrats to Ben H who took this one home. Two bucks very well spent I’d say!

As is tradition, the parts draft folk were busy sorting out a set. This month’s offering was a classic, literally; the lovely Magical Transparent Box 11040. That’s a wonderful selection with all those colourful transparent pieces. For those not in the know, the Parts Draft is a great way to bring along one set and take home bulk-sorted parts for your collection. It’s pretty fun too! For more information, just follow us over at the PerthLUG Facebook page but in short, it’s a wonderful resource for any MOC builder.

As an Easter sweet treat, Helen handed out chocolate eggs to all. I think a certain someone here got caught taking more than one! (This is payback for your photo of me earlier Krista!)
So we had plenty of prizes and chocolate, but we also got up to a lot of Lego building too! I have the proof.

First up we have the gorgeously detailed Tribute to Jules Verne’s Books set. I love seeing these GWP sets built in person. Limited as they are, I’m sure many of them would pass me by entirely. Thanks for showing us this one Bek. And what a charming little set Deb’s Pinata is right folks? An adorable little build that appropriately breaks open! Next, we have Donna’s Brickheadz from Pixar’s Up. I see Carl and Russell but where’s Kevin? Where’s the bird Donna?! Jokes aside, I think these characters translated well to the Brickheadz design aesthetic. What do y’all think?

Kayeligh’s Evolution of STEM set might’ve passed me by too, but I’m so glad I could see it up close. It’s filled with so much detail and character and animation. I give it an A+ for sure.

For the classic Castle lovers out there, Matthew’s King’s Castle 6080 is surely a work of art. And oh, we hear you like the Wolfpack Beastmaster from the latest CMF Series 27? Well, how’s this for a collection of OG Wolfpack dudes? Amazing mate.

As awesome as the castle stuff is, Paul’s classic puppet absolutely stole my heart! I believe this is from 1969 and is original, bar the strings. I nearly took this home with me it was so much fun. We need more puppets you hear Lego? Maybe an Ideas set – it would get my vote for sure.
Thanks to all those who graciously allowed us a glimpse of their builds on the night. And a special thanks to all those who turned up Monday night after a big weekend displaying their works at the B Shed Builds Exhibition. Your pieces there were amazing and your hard work appreciated.
And there we have it. We’re all done and dusted for another issue of the Build Night Break Down. If you’d like to come to one of our build nights, Buildapalooza is back again next month as usual on the second Monday. That’s the 12th of May at our normal time and place; 7-11pm at John McGrath Pavilion off Hensman St, South Perth. Everyone is absolutely welcome and we hope to see you there!
