The Build Night Break Down: February!

by Lukas Mack

Your recap of everything Buildapalooza is back again with February’s issue of the Build Night Break Down. All the prizes, all the builds and all the other bits and pieces that make PerthLUG’s social night such a buzz!

Some real quick info for those who might be new around these parts and wishing to come along to one of our build nights. Buildapalooza is PerthLUG’s regular social event where on the second Monday of the month we bring along a Lego set and just build and socialise. We’re a friendly bunch from all walks of life. It’s just $5 for non-members to help keep the lights on. More details at the bottom of the page.

Let’s jump straight in with the Members’ Draw because we had some amazing prizes to hand out! Amongst the SIX prizes up for offer were two sets of newly released Series 27 Collectible Minifigures – yep, complete with the elusive Wolfpack Beastmaster. I couldn’t take a photo of the winners because every winning entry couldn’t make it for the draw! I don’t think that’s happened before but oh well, so it goes. These lucky members enjoy the perk of having their names thrown in the draw whether present or not so fair is fair. Congrats to you all!

Members’ Draw

Complete Set Series 27 Collectible Minifigures: Adam G
Complete Set Series 27 Collectible Minifigures: Melinda R
Sweetheart Tweety Bird 40824: Mimsy B
BrickHeadz Red Panda Mei 40798: Pam Y
BrickHeadz Eeyore 40797: Sharla B
BrickHeadz Dumbo 40792: Yenta H

We’re not quite done with prizes yet. Our entirely optional, extra, bonus, limited, special edition raffle Monday night was for the new, yet nostalgic, re/incarnation of the Blacktron Renegade set no. 10355. Limited to just 100 $2-tickets, that’s one special prize. I can’t tell who is happier in this pic, Toby or his father! Maybe this is going to be a shared build after all 😉

My favourite part of build night has got to be spying on all the different builds going on throughout the hall. With something like 700 or so Lego sets released each year, there’s just no way I can build (or afford!) them all. A big thanks to Hannah and Dylan who captured some of these pics so we can all be stickybeaks together!

We have quite the selection here: let’s start with Tadhg’s Tales of the Space Age set. Still as clean and sleek as I remember. Judy’s Friends River Camping Adventure was a little delight and Naomi’s 3in1 Peacock set has so much presence! And speaking of ‘presence’, wow that cupid Sweetheart Tweety Bird of Joanne’s is absolutely adorable. And Kayleigh’s Medieval Dragon 3in1 is stunning as well – complete with treasure of course. Perfection.

There was so much to see Monday night but a couple special mentions I’d be remiss include Aoife’s Hogwarts Castle & Grounds (guest starring 3in1 Red Dragon) and what appears to be a custom stand holding John’s DeLorean.

It wasn’t all sets of course, some people bring their plastic stash to sort through and organise. Brooke brought in a pile of vintage minifigs dating back to the 70s that she saved from a bonfire! Can you believe these were all going to be destroyed?? I’m relieved Brooke could save them and share their story.

And to cap off this special edition of the Break Down, I present to you Dylan’s Valentine’s Day GWP that he may or may not have bought for himself. No judgement buddy. None at all. Promise… It is actually an adorable set and maybe I’m a bit jealous having seen it person. Look. At. It!

And that’s it for another issue of the Break Down. If you’d like to come to one of our build nights, Buildapalooza is back again next month as usual on the second Monday. That’s the 10th of March at our normal time and place; 7-11pm at John McGrath Pavilion off Hensman St, South Perth. Everyone is absolutely welcome and we hope to see you there!
