Buildapalooza is back for 2025 and so is your recap of all the prizes, builds and general ruckus that was Monday night. Catch it all in this month’s issue of the Build Night Break Down. Let’s go!
Just a quick word for those who might be new or wishing to come along to one of our build nights. Buildapalooza is PerthLUG’s regular social event where on the second Monday of the month we bring along a Lego set and just build and socialise. We’re a friendly bunch from all walks of life. It’s just $5 for non-members to help keep the lights on. More details at the bottom of the page.

Prizes? Oh yeah, we have prizes! Members had the opportunity to take home one of three Lego sets including the 1000+ piece CNY Good Fortune set! One of the perks of paid membership is to have your name thrown into the monthly raffle draw whether you can physically make it to the night or not. Thrice more, this perk pays off again for our members Monday Night!
Members’ Draw
Good Fortune 80127: Jodi D
Lucky Bamboo 10344: Cameron B
Love Bears 40281: Joanna K

And we’re not done with prizes just yet! For our optional, extra, bonus, limited, special edition raffle we gave away the stunning Fountain Garden 10359. What an absolutely gorgeous set this is. Imagine that on your desk at work; so cute. Well, for her $2 ticket, Meg B doesn’t have to imagine it. Congrats on your win Meg! And congratulations to all our winners, we’ll be back next month with yet more prizes.
Let’s keep it moving here with a little peek into the wonders of the Parts Draft. Ben and crew had it sorted with the Chrysanthemum set 10368. The Botanicals range sure is popular as both builds and part-packs. With so many interesting elements in new colours, I can certainly see why. For those new here, the Parts Draft is a great way to bring along one set and take home bulk-sorted parts for your collection. It’s pretty fun too! For more information just follow us over at the PerthLUG Facebook page but in short, it’s a wonderful resource for any MOC builder.

Now, to my favourite part of the night where I run around spying on everyone’s Lego builds and collections. It’s in this part of the job I’m fortunate enough to meet lots of wonderful people and highlight some of the cool things I wouldn’t otherwise have the chance to see. Thanks again to the fine folks who let me take a sneaky pic or two to share them here.
First off the ranks is Pam’s Lucky Bamboo set. I can’t say this one wowed me when it was first announced, but in person, it has remarkable presence and really pops. There were actually a few of these around on the night I spotted – we even gave one away in the Members’ Draw!
Next I was drawn to the little 3 in 1 Playful Cat Brooke built and it is sooooo adorable! Just look at those eyes, ah!

Lande was speed-building and managed to put together the Fortnite Battlebus in no time flat. I now need this set in my life and Lande is very lucky it didn’t go missing. Next time buddy… Not to be outdone was Lande’s own little man who built the nostalgic GWP remake of Majisto’s Magical Workshop. Good work young man! Now LEGO, more Castle sets please. More.
And Krista, well Krista brought along Marvel’s Groot, Groot, umm Groot and finally also Groot. That is quite a lot of Groot. But! They are all very unique and special in there own way. I’m having a laugh here of course but seriously they look really cool arranged together and neatly displayed in this acrylic case too. Groot!

Finally, I was lucky enough to bump into newcomer Matt who was dusting off and rebuiding some of his classic Space and Aquazone sets. We love seeing that stuff here and a hearty welcome to you Matt and to all the other first-timers who made it Monday. We love seeing new faces almost as much as the classic Space sets, perhaps even more!

And we’re nearly done for another month but first, one final reminder about PerthLUG’s exhibition ArtyBricks: Home-Built. The opening party is this Saturday 2-4pm at Kent St. Gallery in Victoria Park. We’d love to see all your wonderful faces supporting our nine artist-builders. Everyone has worked so hard to pull this off and the last ingredient is you. So come along if you can to this free event Saturday and convince the art gallery to have us back again!!

And that’s that. We’re all done for another month but what a start to 2025! If you’d like to come to one of our build nights, Buildapalooza is back again in February as usual on the second Monday (10th) at our normal time and place; 7-11pm at John McGrath Pavilion off Hensman St, South Perth. Everyone is absolutely welcome. Hope to see you there!
